Kingfisher Leisure has helped The National Museum of the Royal Navy (NMRN) at Portsmouth Historic Dockyard, launch a range of merchandise giving old nautical words a modern twist.
‘Have you ever seen such a magnificent pair of futtocks’ is one of the funny phrases Kingfisher printed on t-shirts, now on sale from the National Museum of the Royal Navy.
The term ‘futtocks’ describes the curved timbers which form the interior ribs of a wooden ship.
Other designs being considered include the terms ‘loblolly’, ‘trunnions’ and ‘garfangle’ - all forms of equipment, construction and tools that were once used on ships but have been replaced with modern equipment and since forgotten.
The merchandise, which also includes cups, pen and magnets, is available in the gift shop at the Museum or online at www.rnmuseumshop.co.uk
