The Doncaster Dome has installed a Wallace & Tiernan Barrier M 1200 UV Generator to cut the amount of chlorine used to clean its pool.
Water is passed through four UV lamps, emitting a pattern of wavelengths that kill off any microorganisms at a rate of almost a million litres every 90 minutes.
The £32,000 unit has lead to chlorine use being cut in half, allowing those who suffer from allergies or skin conditions to now be able to use the pool.
Terry Parker, head of facilities at The Dome, says: The Lagoons smell much fresher, and that has been noticed by both staff and customers. It is also great for the environment and helps us cut back our costs meaning we can reinvest that money elsewhere to further improve the facility for our visitors."
